Slightly updated brief

Habitat for Humanity Database Brief

Issue:
Habitat for Humanity is a charitable organization that builds homes for the poor. As it is non profit they cannot pay for permanent staff and instead rely on volunteers to build these houses. As a worthwhile charity they attract a lot of volunteers. They have a national database called razors edge but are restricted to 3 people logged on at any one time nationally and have difficulty using it. Also the database only keeps track of national issues like sponsors and not volunteers. They wish for a database to keep track of local people. They also require this database be easy to use

Purpose:
This database will be built to keep track of volunteers that give their time to Habitat for Humanity in order to attempt to gain their support for helping out again in the future. By Taking a persons contact information will give Habitat a means to contact them by and request their help again boosting participation numbers and capacity. This database will be tailored solely for Habitat for Humanity lower North Island. The information needs to be accessed fairly easily through Ms Access considering the person accessing the computer could have lots or no experience with computers, mainly Ms Access.

Audience:
Habitat for Humanity organizational staff. People whose information is being tracked. Me. Mr Olsen

  1. Cool, good to see some ideas developing into what could become a worthwhile project. There still seems to be gaps in how you think the information will be accessed/used. Location seems to be missing (are they working in Auckland or Wellington?). Do you want their postal addresses so you can send them formal invitations or 'thank you' letters/references.

You should consider your front-end offering the task that your database system will need to do such as adding a new volunteer, searching for one by first name or surname, grouping by area or job/type of work they volunteered for. There is lots to do. You may refer to your initial design sketches from your brief ... rather than having to update your brief every time your design is modified.
